5:30 pmto8:00 pm

Dear EA professional,

We would like to invite you for our next Architect Café on November 30th. The following topic is covered: Cloud Computing will change the way we work with Enterprise Architecture.

Cloud Computing is one of the IT trends that has a huge impact on the IT industry. In his lecture Martin van den Berg will discuss the impact of Cloud Computing on Enterprise Architecture. He will answer the following questions:

  • Is there more need for enterprise architecture if you would purchase services from the cloud?
  • Will cloud computing lead to other kind of architectures?
  • Will cloud computing lead to a different way we work with architecture?

Martin van den Berg is Architecture Service Line Manager at Sogeti Nederland B.V. and an expert in the area of Enterprise Architecture. He worked as lead architect in organizations like ABN AMRO, ING, Rabobank and Shell. Martin is one of the founders of DYA (Dynamic Architecture) and author of the books “Dynamic Enterprise Architecture, How to make it work”, “Building an Enterprise Architecture Practice”, “SOA for Profit” and “Seize the Cloud”.

EA Cafe 12: Architecture with tangible business benefits.

September 13, 2011
5:30 pmto8:30 pm

A multidisciplinary approach to business architecture. How SD Worx succeeded in transforming a complicated and fragmented application landscape to a coherent and simplified architecture with tangible business benefits.

We will approach the transformation operation from three different perspectives:

  • that of the business manager who is responsible for funding the program and for reaping the benefits
  • that of the human interface designer who developed a suitable user interface architecture to support the business process
  • that of the architect who modeled the AS IS architecture and envisioned the TO BE application landscape

Each role will be filled in with a speaker:

  • Jan Boden is manager of the Central Services and Internal Processes department at SD Worx – KMO. He will speak about the business impact of the transformation operation: business drivers, the business process and the benefits.
  • Johan van Maldeghem is human interface designer with experience in describing business processes and developing highly usable interfaces. He will talk about the initial development of the main business application based on a set of scenarios he derived from a set of interviews with real users.
  • Peter Doomen is enterprise architect at SD Worx. His experience includes modeling complex landscapes and convincing management to take action. He will sketch the context of the transformation operation and talk about the main architecture principles that form the base of the TO BE application landscape.

EA Café 11: An Agile Architecture with Domain Inheritance and Derivations

May 26, 2011
5:30 pmto8:30 pm

Dear EA professional,Our next Architect Café on May 26th will cover the following topic: An Agile Architecture with Domain Inheritance and Derivations.

No old wine in new bottles: an agile environment requires an agile architecture and the old concepts (like 3 tier, distributed objects and SOA) are not ready for it. The obvious architecture is a thorough integrated one without the architecture becoming a monolith.

This interesting topic is brought to you by Koen Van Exem, Managing Director at INXIN. He has more than 10 years experience with Agile and Lean Software Development. “Dimensional planning” is his contribution to the Agile & Lean range of ideas.

Koen is also Managing Director of Allors, an open source application (platform) that is most suited for Agile & Lean companies.

The presentation of Koen will be followed by a business case presented by Wald Westerlinck. At DSM he ran a program to change the DSM sourcing from local buying community to a global service buying center, from Business group towards Hub structure.

HP will be the host of this Architect Café.

The Architect Café will be held in the HP offices in Diegem. Doors are open as from 17h30 and the presentations will be held from 18h to 19h30 (with networking event after the presentations). If you would like to register, please click here.

We are always looking for interesting presentations, valuable case studies and possible hosting locations. Should you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Dear,

First of all best wishes for the New Year!

We at the Belgian Chapter will promote Enterprise Architecture even more in 2011 with 3 Architect Café’s that offer both theoretical and practical cases.

To kick-start our new season we proudly present you on Thursday 3rd March the following topic: The Business Value of Enterprise Architecture, illustrated by a case study.

This interesting topic is brought to you by Patrick Vandeputte. He holds a Master in Engineering and an MBA and has some 20 years of experience with ICT in various functions. While working for bpost since 2003 he currently leads the Enterprise Architecture team at bpost since 2008. Since then the EA team has been heavily involved in all major business projects and a formal Architecture Board has been integrated as a mandatory quality gate in the E2E demand management process. Last year he initiated an ambitious multi-year corporate EA program ‘WRIGHT’ aiming at better alignment between business and ICT.

EA Café 9: Cross-Enterprise Architecture Reality Check – A Case Study

September 30, 2010
6:00 pmto8:00 pm

About the Topic:

‘Case Study: Cross-Enterprise Architecture Reality Check’ tells the story of Swiss Life’s Germany and Switzerland entities, who previously operated mostly autonomously, but cooperated in a joint program, named Pulse, in 2007 to bring variable annuity life insurance products to Europe through a new shared service center in Luxemburg. The corporation had just strategically reoriented, and would soon have to prove its stability through 2008’s turbulent times in the financial markets. This has truly put the flexibility and “apt competitive cost” of Swiss Life’s enterprise architecture to the test.
We will look at how the compliance requirements and the innovative business model were enabled, building on the existing architectures. Which key lessons can be drawn from the established architecture, after subsequent corporate decisions with deep impact on the organisation, while simultaneously extending the architecture (as well as building a new one) to enable consecutive different-than-foreseen business models in Austria and Switzerland through 2009 and 2010

About the facilitator:

Erwin Glassée has served as the Pulse program architect through 2008, based in Zürich until mid 2010. Coming from his previous engagement as country enterprise architect for Swiss Life Belgium, he experienced life as an architect at Swiss Life Group both in Rome (physically conveniently located in Zürich) and in the provinces. Erwin has performed previous engagements as consulting IT architect, project manager, business analyst and software engineer (both custom and product software). Erwin is currently ICT Architect and ICT Security Officer at Delta Lloyd Life, starting september 2010.

Practicalities

Microsoft will be the host of this Architect Café.

Doors are open as from 17h30 and presentations will be held from 18h to 20h (with networking event after the presentations). If you would like to register, please click here.

Event 7: Tools for the Enterprise Architect

March 16, 2010
6:00 pmto8:00 pm

The response to the Fifth Architecture Cafe, about practical experiences with EA tools, organized by the BAEA was enormous. Participants asked us to organize a follow-up with more in-depth insight into the various tools that exist and how Enterprise Architects can benefit from using them.

The BAEA board therefore decided to have another Architecture Cafe with tooling as a subject.

We have invited the 4 leading tool vendors IBM, Mega, BiZZdesign and IDS Scheer to give a 30 minute presentation about their tool and to set up a demo booth.

The event will be held at the well-known Business Faculty in Brussels.

Timing

The Belgian Chapter welcomes you as off 17h30 with an appetizing sandwich buffet. Coming on time doesn’t only mean you can enjoy a tasty diner but you can also get acquainted with the demo booths of the different vendors as well.
At 18h00 sharp, the seventh Architect Café will kick off with the following agenda:
18h00 – 18h30: Mega
18h30 – 19h00: IBM
19h00 – 19h30: BiZZdesign
19h30 – 20h00: IDS Scheer

In order to be able to respect the timeline, we suggest you ask your questions afterwards on the demo booth of the vendor.

We look forward meeting you there!

September 16, 2009
6:00 pm

On 2009, September 16th, Suzanne Robertson, principal of the Atlantic Systems Guild and (co)author of many books and articles about requirements management spoke about Enterprise Analysis and Requirements – how they can benefit from each other. It was a wonderful event with lively discussions and sound answers, attended by 50+ participants.

Who is Suzanne Robertson?

Suzanne Robertson is a principal and founder of the Atlantic Systems Guild. She is co-author of “Mastering the Requirements Process, 2nd edition” textbook, a guide for practitioners on finding requirements and writing them so that all stakeholders can understand them.

Suzanne works with organisations to apply innovative techniques and fresh thinking in all of their systems development activities.

Her work also includes research and consulting on the management, sociological and technological aspects of requirements.

The product of her research and experience is Volere (www.volere.co.uk), a requirements process, template and techniques for assessing requirements quality, and for specifying requirements.
