EA Café 16: Alignment of business and ICT in the public sector

Dear EA professional,

Although we all are enjoying a sweet summer at the moment, the Belgian Chapter is already busy with the planning of the next Architect Café on Thursday 27th of September. This time we will cover 2 EA customer cases.

To start with, HP will present EA: alignment of business and ICT in the public sector.

In this session, brought to you by Yves Vanderbeken, you will learn how the creation and installation of an Enterprise Architecture practice, contributed to develop a modern, efficient and citizen-friendly public service.

He will share experiences from recent “enterprise architecture“ projects conducted at different departments of the Flemish Government. You will learn about:

  • the typical business challenges that characterizes the public sector
  • the importance of communication between the business organization and ICT
  • the power of an EA approach in defining a standard technology policy
  • tools and techniques used
  • the importance of a strategic business – IT alignment

The next session will be about the Google Apps project at VDAB, presented by Johan Nagels of Capgemini.

In November of last year, the 5000+ employees of VDAB started using Google Mail and Calendar, instead of the Novel Groupware platform they had been using for more than 10 years.

To prepare for this, Capgemini not only helped VDAB with the technical challenges (integration with other platforms and the migration itself), but also with the “human aspect” of such a change (change management).

During this presentation the following topics will be covered:

  • scope of the project
  • the approach
  • the technical and non-technical challenges
  • the result
  • all within an EA context

Johan Nagels has been in IT for more than ten years, starting as a Java programmer. These days Johan is Business Development Manager for Cloud and Mobile Solutions at Capgemini Belgium. This means that Johan covers the Belgian IT market, looking for new Cloud and Mobile projects, but also and perhaps more importantly, that Johan is responsible for the delivery of those projects, should the customer select Capgemini.

LoQutus will be the host of this Architect Café.

The Architect Café will be held in the LoQutus offices in Sint-Martens-Latem. Doors are open as from 17h30 and the presentations will be held from 18h to 20h00 (with networking event after the presentations). If you would like to register, please click here.

We are always looking for interesting presentations, valuable case studies and possible hosting locations. Should you have any suggestions, please let us know.

Make sure to reserve your seat now!

Best regards,

The Belgian Chapter of a|EA
